The lifelong story of being ten

Dorothy Doyle Mienko

on a day
when drones hummed
he hobbled her

into her head
by attaching his hands
to her belly

directly into the shadows
dribbled off his applelike cheeks
he weighted her down

she was the direction
of his muffled attentions
and spatters

everything about him
tasted salty as blood
as pieces of her

that same day-
fell off

Dorothy Doyle Mienko's poetry has appeared in online and in print journals such as: Niederngasse, Stirring, Two River View, Adirondak Review, Miller's Pond, Sometimes City, and in many others.
