In A Casual Way

by Odilia Rivera

At least once a month
give up on everyone
do not want noise
and all becomes
silence broken by music
interrupt lack with dance
people degrade to whispers
filtered through a wall
use an empty glass
that might have held
something
crawl into bed desperate
to have his hands
cover up noise
drown with her
no words for hours
suffocation comes easy
no struggle, no argument
after the food is gone, she starves
so in a casual way,
she wants to die in her sleep
as if nothing had happened
between living and dead flesh
she wants to cry and
rinse her organs with water.
