Welcome to the premiere issue of Wicked Alice. It's incredibly interesting the way this project has taken shape. I began with the idea only to start a literary zine reflective of the type of writing I wanted to see more of. As the submissions trickled in, however, I found myself drawn to works by writers reflecting aspects of their experiences as women, as well as commentary on the various images of women pervasive in art, literature, history, and beyond.
What began as a general content literary idea metamorphosized into another entity entirely. Perhaps it's the name Wicked Alice, a play on "Sweet Alice", a name reflecting a uniquely female voice and vision. With that in mind, I invite you to partake of the excellent poets and essayists in this issue. I also invite readers to submit pieces for our second issue due out in December. Till then, adieu!
