Welcome to our first annual summer special issue devoted to Chicago–area women poets. Working in the legacy of women like Gwendolyn Brooks, Anna Castillo, and Lisel Mueller, among other notable local voices, the poets in the issue represent the best of a multitude of poets and movements rising in the city. Many I’ve discovered through readings, publications, and organizations, while others have found their way to Wicked Alice by good fortune. All of them have astounded me with their work. I’d like to thank the poets, first off, for allowing me the privilege of publishing their poems, as well as Tara Betts, who put me in contact with a number of the poets included. And of course to the readers, who I hope find reading the issue as much an enjoyment as I had putting it together. Enjoy….
